I do have to say Johnny Gyro is a great Famliy run business and it shows. Johnny has a true gift working with kids and gets kids. He remembers all the kids names which was very impressive. My kids love going and are excited to go and learn more.He makes it fun for them to learn and keeps them motivated. Thanks Johnny and Famliy :)

I went to one trial class for my son at Johnny Gyro, and I was sold. He not only teaches a great karate class, but respect for others and yourself. He doesn't just tell them to be respectful of each other, but he gives them examples. He is a great role model. Erika Owens

Johnny Gyro is by far the best Karate studio in the area. His wife and kids are Black Belts as well and they really run the studio the way it should be run. My daughter loves going each week and I could not recommend a better place. And yes, Mr. Gyro remembers each students name! It's crazy

I live in Oak Park and am the father of two son, now ages 24 and 16. All three of us have been students of Gyro, my oldest son having earned his Black Belt after 10 years of classes, and my youngest about to do the same after a similar number of years. I attended both the belt class and the general exercise cardio classes.
I have the highest praise for Mr. Gyro, both for the skill of his teaching, and for the wonderfully positive influence he has on his students. He occupies a very unique place in our community, becasue he is old enough to be parental, but different enough to be cool. His students admire him, and when he gives them advice they listen to him in a way they won't to their parents. Both of my sons are wonderful young men of whom I'm very proud, and while their mother and I take most of the credit, I'm glad they had the chance to experience Mr. Gyro and his studio, and thankful for the part he played in their growth and maturity. As a traveling businessman I wanted to learn to protect myself. Several years ago I began looking for a karate instructor that had actually been in the arena, on a fighting circuit, and found 7 time world champion Johnny Gyro in Oak Park. Over the years I've taken hundreds of private lessons from Mr. Gyro and recently earned my black belt. Johnny Gyro Karate is a family business that cares about your welfare, not just about getting your money. The instruction and instructors are professional, reliable, and extremely good at what they do. Their facility is huge and I liked the fact there were no "gotcha" sign up fees like so many others places. They also have carpeted rows of bleachers, rather than folding metal chairs, to relax in while you're waiting for or watching your kids. If you're interested in learning from the best and in getting massive value for your money, you owe it to yourself, and your family, to check them out. I will be forever grateful that I joined the Johnny Gyro family. Dave Anderson

When I first visited JGK, my son was apprehensive about doing Karate, Mr. Gyro's ability to connect with him was amazing. He began right away. I am so grateful each and every time I enter the studio of what my son has received from being in the care of this amazing family. This is a family run studio of five impressive, kind, knowledgable, black belts. Their dedication and love and respect for children and adults alike is uncomparible. I travel quite far and pass many studios on my way to JGK and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!!! Thank you JGK for being such a big part of our family!!

You can't tell me there's a better karate studio than Johnny Gyro Karate. I don't need to go on and on repeating everyone else's sentiments, but all I can say is, those other guys don't know what they're missing!

As a former martial arts instructor, I trust only Johnny Gyro to teach my child the art and discipline of Karate. Master Gyro is the best of the best, a champion of champions - Masters Hall of Fame, 7-time World Champion, US Olympic Team Captain, etc. - and most of all, he's GREAT with kids and adults alike!

Johnny and Noel Gyro run a phenomenal program at JGK. They promote self confidence while teaching amazing martial art form and skills to children. Our two blue belts look forward with great enthusiasm, to their classes each and every week. There is no other studio in town that compares to the warmth and positivity that comes from the Gyro family. It is most certainly the ONLY choice for our children.

John Gyro is by far the best out there for many reasons! First, John Gyro has been there as a competitive martial artist. He has so much passion for martial arts. Second, I've tried other studios with my kid, but he wasn't happy.. Third, with the Gyro's there is no pressure to sign up. Fourth, the Gyro family are all martial artists and work with kids of all abilities and skills. Fifth, it's a family affair. They are public figures in the community and don't shy away from interacting with others. I could go on and on and on. Johnny Gyro is the way to go!!!

To say that Johnny Gyro Karate Studio has earned the gratitude of my family for the many years of great instruction would be an understatement. You will not find a more knowledgeable or dedicated team of instructors who consistently provide excellent training. ( A side note...Noel has a Women's Workout Class which is AWESOME! It is offered MWF mornings. Having never like exercising before, I can't imagine starting my day without her. She is so positive and upbeat that sometimes you forget how hard you are working out. Well, not really!)

There is no end to the positive aspects of Johnny Gyro Karate. It is a family run studio. All of the Gyros teach and they are all outstanding. Johnny teaches not only Karate to our kids...he teaches character, responsibility, and respect. My son has new found confidence since starting at JGK. We love the studio and we love the family.

Johnny Gyro and his family are unparalleled for Karate with character, and integrity. Johnny inspires self respect, courage, and confidence along with superb Karate training (my son is a red belt). Johnny, Noel, and their three sons are devoted to our community and every family they know. Johnny and Noel's sons have grown up to be mature young men representing their family's solid character well. My children have taken classes for 7 years and the Gyros have been supportive, caring, and always looking to promote character in my children and others in the class. If you want a committed, dedicated Karate Instructor, look no further than Johnny Gyro Karate studio.

The Johnny Gyro studio is all about promoting positivity, respect for self, parents/family and others, & how to avoid conflict - all in addition to the actual karate teachings. Johnny Gyro has such an amazing way with the kids, particularly the younger ones -- incorporating fun, humor and discipline. I wouldn't take my son anywhere else!

Mr. & Mrs. Gyro and all the Gyro family have my highest respect. My wife, my youngest son and I all had the honor of receiving our black belts from JGK. The skills we have received from JGK are unmatched. They have taught us to not only defend ourselves but more importantly when to avoid conflict. Mr. Gyro is not only an amazing martial arts (8th degree black belt grand master & 7x world champion) he is also an excellent instructor who's patience and understand of every one of his student's individual needs speaks volumes to his character. He teaches his students to respect themselves and others. He shows us that being a martial arts is more that just learning to fighting. It you are looking for your child to learn martial arts look no further. You will no find a better martial arts studio in the area (or anywhere) than Johnny Gyro Karate.

My daughter started training with Mr. Gyro in 1994, at the age of 14 (she is now 32). I began working out at the studio shortly thereafter and we have been loyal students ever since. Although my daughter went off to college and studied under at least five instructors, the Gyros are still her favorite (they both attended her wedding in 2008)! They run a very family oriented, positive, and **super clean** studio. Both my daughter and I have more confidence in our ability to protect our own lives. Additionally, the Gyro's always give students **practical** tips for descalating dangerous situations and never promote violence at their school.
JGSK is the number one school -- trust us!

the Gyro name has gained a lot of respect in working with the community, while instructing great karate sessions. I would suggest no one else but Johnny to teach my child karate! Great learning environment!

It is always amazing to read what people have to say about experiences and what someone brings to their own life. I can tell you one thing that Mr. Gyro is the best. He isn’t number 1 for a reason. He teaches martial arts and not partial arts. But it isn’t only about him (Sorry Mr. Gyro). It’s about his family as well. You know people can say that they have been a part of someone’s life for a few years, but in reality is that ever enough? Well I’ve been a part of the Gyro family for almost 20 years. Mr. Gyro is talented and brings out the best in people…believe me, I know. This is no gimmick, this is reality. He pushes people to try harder, to give what they can. He isn’t one that just hands out belts; you have to earn every single one of them. He teaches everyone that it is okay to make mistakes; it is even so amazing that he tells 4 to 5 year olds this and enforces it every single day. Mr. Gyro has been a mentor, a second father to me and like most students it’s the same feeling. You can read all of the comments above to see this. All classes are taught with the Gyro family; where else can you go and get the personal attention?

I can’t tell you how much the Gyro’s mean to me. They have really helped me throughout my life. The Gyros’ are amazing; each and every one of them is terrific at what they do. If you need to look for a Role Model, look no further.

Respect Yourself.

Johnny Gyro is by far the best!! I love going to classes there. Been taking karate at the studio for like 5-6 years now. Mr. Gyro is a great instructor, he is very patient and eager to help anyone from really young kids to adults. He has a really great talent for relating to what each student needs and how to help them do the best they can. Another great aspect of the family run studio is the personal relationships. Mr. Gryo always remembers every stufents name and whats going on with them its really cool. I even know students that havent gone to class in a long time still really enjoyed there karate and training with Johnny Gyro karate.  I would definitely reccomend this studio to anyone its a really great place to learn karate!

It was an interesting faux pas to mention raving comments in the context of everyone giving the Gyro family due honors. Their families do rave about them because they warrant the focus and attention. They are role models in the community regularly appearing publicly to discuss their anti bullying campaign including two free iPhone apps that they put out... Bully 911 and Live to Tell About It to keep people all over the world. Safe. For Free.... plus Noel has authored and produced the finest children's martial arts book series which has enjoyed tremendous critical acclaim.

For me, the journey to black belt in their studio came at 47. I am now 52 and have recently completed my black belt test and found that completing it was one of the 5 greatest achievements I have ever personally attempted. I discovered that all the physical lessons for me were secondary to the mental journey of focus, discipline, patience, tolerance, and sheer belief in one's self that drives you to grow in ways you doubted you were capable of. When I started with Mr. Gyro, I had no idea of his pedigree. It was years into my lessons that I learned that he was the World Karate Champion 7 times. That he came up as the top fighter in Chuck Norris' studio and lead the teams that dominated the sport for more than a decade. Mr. Gyro and family are the real deal. They are truly the rare breed of excellence, personality, humanity, and together they can make you believe in yourself like none others.

When we first came to Johnny Gyro our son was very shy and super sensitive. Over the past 3 years the Johnny Gyro's Karate has given our son the confidence, the focus and assurance he needs given any situation. The Gyro's are SO good with the kids. They make it fun while learning the skill of Karate. He teaches good life lessons and talks to students about the "hows" "whys" and "when" to use Karate. The kids LOVE him and as a PE teacher myself who deals with kids daily, that alone should say it all. Thanks you Gyro family for being such a great example to our children and teaching them a skill that will help shape their future...Harshfield's

I have attended Johnny Gyro Karate for about 18 years now and am a 2nd degree black belt.My son is a first degree black belt and spent many of his growing years at this studio. Mr. Gyro has been a mentor to both of my children and a constant inspiration to me. He has such a love for what he does and it shows in his teaching. Mr. Gyro is so good with people of all ages and encourages each person to be the best that they could possibly be. I have such great respect for every black belt at this studio because I know how high the standards are, the hard work that that is put in and the dedication that it takes to achieve a black belt in our studio. Black belts are not handed out here, they are earned. Because of these high standards and the integrity of this family run studio it has always been a very important part of our lives and to so many others in our community for so many years!
